How to Ollie Fast

Today we are learning how to ollie. An ollie (as stated by Wikipedia) is a no-handed, aerial skateboarding trick. Basically your board jumps a little from the ground, almost like magic! Here is an example of an ollie:

Pretty cool right?

Now to perform this trick your basically going to have to "Pop, Slide, Jump". I will go in depth in a bit.

OK now go grab your board and begin riding it in a comfortable speed. Why not stationary (standing still)?
I feel it is better to begin learning tricks moving then stationary so when it does come time to perform them moving you won't be scared.

After you have a nice speed bend your knees a bit- it makes things easier.

Pop

Position your back foot somewhere in the middle of your tail. Try not to place it on the front or back edges because it might end up flipping. A good tip is to be on your toes. Now pop your skateboard by pushing down on it. A common mistake is to leave your foot when it reaches the ground causing no height at all. Try to push down without actually pushing DOWN. Right when you pop lift your back foot up.

Slide

Now comes your front foot. Have it placed right behind the front bolts. Right after you pop, slide your foot towards the nose of your board but do not kick it off your board. It is more off a nice gentle slide. Stop before you reach the end of your nose.

Jump

Now jump after you have popped and finished sliding your foot make sure to lift up your knees and suck them in to go higher up.

Those are the basic steps to performing an ollie. Remember you have to do them all seamlessly almost like a subtle movement. Do not attempt it by doing all the steps slow, one by one because nothing will happen. You must do it all at once.

Remember to go off and practice your ollies. Remember its good to have them down-pact so harder tricks become easier to perform. Ollies are essential, learn them today!
